Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) observed UNAU Day (A Day of Siblings with Disabilities) on June 26, 2026 at the Auditorium of Gospel Centenary Hall, New Lamka. The programme celebrated the vital role of siblings, families, and communities in supporting persons with disabilities while promoting dignity, equality, and social inclusion.
The event was graced by Pu Krishna Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the Government's continued commitment to the welfare of persons with disabilities and emphasized that the Deputy Commissioner's Office remains accessible to support their needs.
As part of the annual observance, CCI presented Ginmalsawm Tonsing Award to students with disabilities who successfully completed their Class X and XII examinations. The award recognizes their perseverance, academic achievement, and commitment to education, inspiring other young persons with disabilities to pursue their goals with confidence.
A significant milestone during this year's programme was the presentation of Social Inclusion Award for the first time. The award recognizes communities and organizations that actively promote the inclusion, participation, and dignity of persons with disabilities. The inaugural recipients were ECA Mission Board, K. Salbung, and YPA Bungmual Unit, both honoured for their exemplary efforts in creating welcoming and inclusive communities.
The programme also featured a variety of cultural performances by students of The Malsawm Initiative (TMI). A particularly memorable moment was the heartfelt performance of Amazing Grace by Ms. Chingnunhoih Guite, a song dearly loved by late Master Ginmalsawm Tonsing.
CCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, award recipients, participants, partner organizations, families, and all those who attended the event. Their presence and support reaffirm the collective commitment to building a society where every person, regardless of ability, is respected, included, and given the opportunity to thrive.
