TMI provides inclusive, need-based education for children with multiple disabilities aged 4–17 years. Learning is guided by Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and delivered through structured levels ranging from Early Education to Pre-Vocational training. Support services such as Braille and sign language are integrated based on individual needs, alongside continuous parent and caregiver engagement.
An accredited NIOS Open Basic Education (OBE) Centre since 2019, TMI has supported over 300 students. In January 2026, the school celebrates a major milestone with three students successfully passing out the NIOS Secondary Examination—a first since its inception.
Designed for children aged 0–10 years, the EIU serves as the first point of assessment and support, focusing on early identification, school readiness, and developmental needs. The EIU strives to provide essential support services to children and families, often extending beyond its capacity due to the increasing number of cases within the community. Children graduating from the unit are smoothly transitioned to The Malsawm Initiative (TMI) or other appropriate educational and developmental pathways based on their individual needs.
To reach children with severe disabilities who cannot access institutional services, CCI delivers therapy and educational support directly to homes. Under the Home School Programme – Making Education Accessible for All, families are empowered as caregivers and partners. This year, three children transitioned from home-based care into formal education settings.
Implemented with the Autonomous District Council (ADC) and Zonal Education Office (ZEO), this programme strengthens inclusive practices in six mainstream schools. Supported by the Wipro Foundation, it builds teacher capacity through training, exposure visits, and teaching-learning materials. The programme is looking forward to expand its reach of teachers from 15 to 115 by 2028, embedding inclusion within the formal education system.
To address low employability among PwDs, CCI promotes vocational skills and self-reliance. As a step forward, staff are being trained in vocational rehabilitation, laying the groundwork for future employment pathways for PwDs.
