For the first time in the history of Churachandpur College (Autonomous), International Day of Sign Language was observed on September 23, 2024, through a collaborative initiative by Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) and Churachandpur College.
The event witnessed the participation of over 250 students and aimed to promote awareness, inclusion, and communication accessibility for persons with hearing impairments. During the program, CCI staff and students from The Malsawm Initiative (TMI) engaged participants through interactive sessions on lip reading, gestures, and the alphabets of American and Indian Sign Language.
A special highlight of the event was the performance of India’s National Anthem in sign language, reflecting the spirit of inclusion and equal participation. The celebration served as an important step toward fostering greater awareness and understanding of sign language and deaf culture within educational institutions.
