
District-Level International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 was observed on December 3, 2024, at Happy Heart School, Bethel under the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The event was organized in collaboration with partner schools and organizations.
The program began with a welcome speech and keynote address by Felix Sianmuanthang, President of the Churachandpur District Disable Union (CDDU), emphasizing the importance of leadership, inclusion, and equal participation for persons with disabilities.
The celebration featured a variety of cultural performances including a Floral Dance by Happy Heart School, a Skit by Little Gems Academy, a Dance by VK Tawna High School, and a Bamboo Dance by students of The Malsawm Initiative (TMI). An inspiring address was also delivered by entrepreneur and person with disability, Thiankhanmuan Guite.
A special highlight of this year’s event was the hosting of the program by students with hearing impairment from TMI, Khawlching and Daisy, reflecting growing leadership and participation among persons with disabilities.
The event also included exhibitions of assistive aids and appliances, Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs), and creative stalls presented by partner schools and organizations. The observance concluded with closing remarks by Paul Rozarlien, Coordinator (Advocacy), CCI, recognizing the collective efforts toward building a more inclusive and empowering society for persons with disabilities.
