In observance of Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2025, students from Level B, Level C, and Class 10 of The Malsawm Initiative (TMI) participated in the “Equal Access for All” campaign organized by Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) Legal Aid Clinic in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
As part of the campaign, students visited the offices of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at the Mini Secretariat to distribute awareness pamphlets and engage with officials on the importance of accessible and inclusive infrastructure for persons with disabilities.
The initiative highlighted ongoing accessibility challenges despite existing efforts toward inclusion. Although a ramp was constructed at the DC office following CCI’s 2022 Public Interest Litigation (PIL), it remains difficult for wheelchair users to access effectively, underscoring the need for accessibility standards that prioritize usability and universal access.
Through the campaign, students actively advocated for a more inclusive environment where accessibility is not only provided in principle but made functional and meaningful for all persons with disabilities.
