About Us

Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) is at the forefront of driving sustainable change by empowering marginalized communities, with a special focus on persons with disabilities (PwDs). Established in 2002 and restructured in 2007, CCI is a non-governmental, apolitical, and not-for-profit organisation. It was founded to address pressing societal issues and to foster a better society through community initiative and participation, particularly for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

In response to the growing need for a dedicated space to bring together assessment, intervention, capacity building, and community engagement, the Malsawm Ability Resource Centre (MARC) took shape.
Located along NH-2 at Pearsonmun, Churachandpur, MARC functions as the physical campus through which CCI carries forward its vision and programmes for persons with disabilities. Envisioned as a one-stop, multi-functional centre, MARC is where specific assessments form the foundation of all interventions, enabling CCI to deliver comprehensive, community-based support beyond education and health, supporting persons with disabilities to live with dignity, independence, and opportunity.
Every child or individual seeking support undergoes appropriate assessments such as Speech and Language Assessment, Physiotherapy Assessment, Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Assessment, Intellectual Disability Assessment, Global Developmental Delay Assessment, and Special Education Assessment. This structured approach ensures that support is responsive, individual-centred, and meaningful. Driven by committed professionals and shaped by local realities, MARC stands as the place where CCI’s commitment to inclusion is lived out, ensuring that no child or individual is left behind due to disability or circumstance.

The journey of CCI is deeply rooted in the personal experience of its Founder who was blessed with a baby boy who was diagnosed with optic nerve atrophy a day after birth. During his determined search for medical treatment, he realized that countless other parents of children with special needs were facing similar challenges. This realization led him to initiate a parents’ support group, which gradually evolved into a safe space for parents to share their experiences, discuss challenges, and collectively work toward building an accepting, inclusive, and disability-friendly society. Over time, this initiative evolved into CCI, dedicated to advocacy, support, and empowerment of persons with disabilities and their families through community participation and practical interventions.
