Pu Pauzagin Tonsing, Director, Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) was honored with the Amazing Indian 2024 Award in the category of Education, recognizing his outstanding contribution toward inclusive education and disability support in Manipur.
His journey began from a deeply personal experience when his son was diagnosed with irreversible optic nerve atrophy in 2005. Facing significant challenges in accessing healthcare and education services, Pauzagin Tonsing was inspired to create support systems for children with disabilities and their families within the community.
With limited resources but a strong commitment to inclusion, he founded Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) in 2007. In 2011, CCI established The Malsawm Initiative in Pearsonmun, Lamka, a learning centre dedicated to supporting children with special needs through inclusive education, care, and family-centered support.
Over the years, CCI has worked closely with parents and communities to promote disability awareness, strengthen advocacy, provide counseling, support access to education, and empower families of children with disabilities.
The recognition highlights the impact of grassroots leadership and community-driven efforts in building a more inclusive and supportive society for persons with disabilities.
