Since its inception, advocacy for persons with disabilities has been a priority for CCI. Awareness campaigns and sensitization on rights and entitlements for persons with disabilities, attitudinal change and accessibility for an inclusive society are the main area of focus. Government institutions, religious institutions, and institutions like village authorities and philanthropic organizations are the major target groups. Significant positive change has been witnessed in the district with District Administration taking initiative role in bringing organizing various programmes for persons with disabilities since 2017.
UNAU Day
Unau Day (Day of Siblings with Disabilities) aims at sensitising the siblings of the persons with disabilities about the issues and challenges faced daily by their brothers and sisters. The ultimate goal being to create a platform for siblings to break free from their daily responsibilities and give them a chance to think and reflect on their disabled brothers and sisters (on what their struggle would be like had they been in their shoes), which was often taken for granted and misread. This will strengthen the bond and relationship in the family and generate a better understanding of the situation, ability and capacity of their brothers and sisters with disabilities. Such level of empathy will generate an improved disable friendly environment in the family and an inclusive society at large and address the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities to a greater extent. Unau (siblings) group consist of the siblings of children with disability, who are more educated and can be trained more easily over illiterate parents.
